Jon Favreau-Backed Loco’l Is Now Indiegogo’s Most Funded Food Campaign

With just a few hours until its crowdfunding campaign comes to an end, up and coming restaurant Loco’l has not only successfully funded, it has also become the most funded food project on global crowdfunding platform, Indiegogo.

loco'l 2As previously reported, filmmaker and actor Jon Favreau has announced his support for famous chefs Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson’s project. The cooking duo launched the campaign in January seeking funds for Loco’l, which will “revolutionize” fast food. The restaurant will offer fast food made with real ingredients, and will have locations in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood and Los Angeles’ Watts neighborhood.”

Favreau, who worked with Choi to perfect his culinary skills for the 2014 movie, Chef, released a video statement declaring his support for the project, along with announcing a match challenge for potential backers. He stated:

loco'l“I’m here to announce a match challenge for the Indiegogo project of Loco’l . Loco’l is the brain child of chefs Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson. It’s a restaurant that’s attempting to bring chef driven cuisine to the fast food community. They are looking to open up locations in underserviced communities and introduce a whole set of customers to a set of food they never would have had the opportunity to eat, and offer an alternative to the fast food chains.

“My match challenge is if we can get half way to their [$1o0,000] goal, if we hit $75,000 I’m gonna kick in $7,500 in order to help with the efforts to get this project funded. Please learn more about it, I think that they’re trying something really ambitious and I really salute their efforts.”

Now, not only will Favreau be matching the funds, during a recent update, the Loco’l team stated:

“We not only reached our goal last night — we also became the MOST FUNDED Indiegogo food project of all time!  And no other IGG food project comes close to our total backer #s, which is what we really care about.Loco'l

As a surprise gift to the backers, the team will be sending a “Thank You” comic book with the orders:

“We’re putting together a Loco’l comic book / graphic novel with our incredibly talented friends at Folklor.  We’re incorporating all of our “characters” into the storyline, where the Loco’l crew guards the precious seeds in a world of synthetic foods.  And Chef Daniel cooks late into the night to overturn the clown dictator.  Really fun stuff, can’t wait to show you guys.”

Those looking to fund the project have until tomorrow morning (3 a.m. EST) to contribute.
