With his and Broken Lizard’s Indiegogo campaign, Super Troopers 2, continuing to near recording-breaking funds, director and co-star Jay Chandrasekhar sat down with NPR’s Tamara Keith to share more details about the highly anticipated sequel.
As previously reported, Chandrasekhar and his Broken Lizard team took to Indiegogo last month seeking to raise funds for the sequel. The highly anticipated sequel will go into production just 14 years after the first film’s release at the 2001 Sundance Festival.
The crew revealed that the movie would only be made IF the campaign completely raised its $2 million initial goal. Within only a couple of hours, the project raised $1.3 million and then on day two was completely funded.
During his interview, Chandrasekhar announced that he and the rest of the film’s crew have already written 16 drafts of the script and that it took 21 drafts to get the original film just right:
Noting how much pressure he and crew now have, Chandrasekhar explained:
“We just want to make sure that this movie is somewhere close to as good as the first.”
Discussing the film’s hit campaign and its already success, Chandrasekhar said:
“This campaign is as much about perception and demonstration of the fan base as anything. The more money we make, the bigger the film can be; the bigger the cameo stars can be.”
“We’re trying to make people who actually donate feel like they weren’t taken advantage of.”
Meanwhile, with only 12 more days to go, Super Troopers 2 campaign has successfully raised over $3.5 million thanks to nearly 40,000 backers.
