Fit Gurus Secures £200K, One of the First UK Startups to Receive Investment from AngelList

fit gurusFit Gurus is one of the first start-ups in the UK to receive investment from AngelList, securing £100,000 of backing from 37 investors. An additional £100,000 was invested into the company through the Finance for Business North East Proof of Concept Fund, managed by Northstar Ventures, according to North East News.

james foster“Fit Gurus is a fantastic concept, and has been developed at a time when as a nation we are more interested in fitness and training than ever before,” stated James Foster, investment manager at Northstar Ventures. “This platform allows personal trainers to reach an unlimited amount of clients around the world. I’m confident that the business will enjoy exponential success.”

Fit Gurus’ online platform, the brainchild of personal trainer Dave Stidolph and tech entrepreneur Paul Slater,  allows users to access bespoke training plans from hundreds of personal trainers and celebrities.

“The potential for the platform to grow and develop further is huge, so to be able to access this amount of funding through a syndicate like AngelList will make a huge difference to push the business forward,” Stidolph averred.

AngelList, which launched in the UK earlier this year, allows access to a syndicate of investors and has been hugely successful in the US with more than $100m (£64.8m) invested start-ups in the country in 2014.

Richard McGlasham“The roll-out of AngelList into the UK will provide a further funding alternative for tech businesses across the country, allowing them access to highly respected funders who have experience of helping tech companies grow,” commented Richard McGlasham, Watson Burton corporate solicitor.  The Newcastle-headquartered law firm advised the company on the AngelList investment. “We’ve been able to help Fit Gurus throughout the entire process, liaising with both Northstar Ventures’ lawyers and AngelList to bring the deal together.”
