In an effort to help startups get off the ground, Rob Love of UK’s reward-based crowdfunding platform, CrowdfunderUK has teamed up with Virgin’s founder, Sir Richard Branson, Julie Deane of the Cambridge Satchel Company and Rapha’s Tom Wood to offer up tips on how to be successful in the business world.
When it comes to making mistakes, the four shared:
“Don’t be afraid to make mistakes- it’s better to make a decision and keep moving your business forward. Being decisive is good!”
Stating that PR funds should be kept at a minimum, Love, Branson, Deane and Wood explained:
“[The] spending money on PR in the early could be a flawed route to business growth – instead concentrate on growing your business brand from free and easy marketing hacks. Imagine you’ve got no PR budget – you’ve got to be creative and find exciting new ways to get your business noticed.”
Noting how to evolve your business, each revealed:
“Start up business have a golden opportunity to change and evolve as they expand – listen to your customers and react to what the market is telling you. Be open to new ideas and opportunities and don’t be afraid to change your business model to fit demand.”
“Treat your staff as you’d like to be treated yourself and your business will flourish. With happy people working alongside you that feel valued and supported, they’ll want your business to succeed as much as you do!”
In regards to a key way of keeping a business alive, the pros added:
“Make time to have fun, to play, to appreciate the journey and the story that you are creating with your business. It’s really important to make time for yourself, [your] family and your friends as well as your business.”
