Sister of Alleged Charleston Shooter Creates GoFundMe Campaign For Postponed Wedding & Honeymoon; Cancels After Four Days

amber-roof3Amber Roof, sister of the alleged Charleston Church shooter, Dylann Roof, recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe to raise $5,000 for her wedding to Michael Tyo along with honeymoon.

Last month, Dylann walked into Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and killed nine people, including the senior pastor, state senator Clementa C. Pinckney. This situation took place just four days before Amber’s wedding, which she canceled in respect of the victims.

Amber wrote on the campaign’s site:

“Our wedding day was supposed to be the most important and special day of our lives. It was suppose to start our lives together with our new family. Our day was the exact opposite. Our wedding day was full of sorrow, pain and shame, tainted by the actions of one man. The Charleston Massacre took place and our lives were forever changed.

Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church“We canceled our wedding to protect our family and mourning the lives of those lost. Many friends and family members came into town and took time off of work to be there for us. We could not ask you to dot hat again.”

Amber noted that 10% of the funds donated to the campaign would go towards the church as a form of respect for the victims and families affected by her brother’s actions.

While some bystanders weren’t as happy with the idea of donating funds to Ambers, others understood her situation and offered up encouraging words for the couple. One donor, under the name Megan P, stated:

Dylann Roof“I took have a selfish brother that has ruined a few of my special days. A situation like this could have easily been me since my brother has threatened to kill my father on several occasions.”

During its run, the campaign raised over $1,600 of its $5,000 goal. The campaign has since been taken down with a message from GoFundMe that reads:

“This campaign has been removed by the Campaign Organizer. Organizers have the ability to remove their campaigns whenever they choose.”
