Ys Net Inc, as represented by Yu Suzuki, has announced today the start of an additional “Slacker Backer” funding campaign through a special page on the official Shenmue III website. This campaign will be both in English and in Japanese, and will accept PayPal as well as credit card payments.
Earlier this summer, Shenmue III hit Kickstarter, and successfully raised over $6.33 million dollars. It’s description reads:
“14 years have passed since the previous installment of Shenmue went on sale, but even until now, a global community of enthusiastic fans are still just as active. The United States, France, Great Britain, Germany are just some of the places that Shenmue community sites thrive, sharing everything from the original series to debating news and prospects forShenmue III.”
Shenmue’s website also revealed more details about the game’s history:
“Released on the Sega Dreamcast in 1999. The game reproduced the world as it actually exits, and was a landmark achievement for games and the freedom they allowed in their world. The 3D open world game was born, influencing game after game that followed. It was a masterpiece that changed the future of gaming.”
This campaign comes as a response to include those who could not support the previous campaign for various reasons, citing a lack of payment options, or not having an opportunity to pledge before the campaign had ended.
The new initiative will continue to add on to the “Stretch Goals” laid out in the July Kickstarter, where additional funding will contribute to further game development, and give previous supporters a vested interest in the ongoing campaign.
The campaign period is scheduled to end at midnight on December 31st.
