Earlier this week, cuddle + kind, a startup created by a Ontario family, launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise funds for its new knitted doll collection.

cuddle & kind 2The dolls are not only cute and perfect for young children, they each represent the fight against child hunger. For each doll that is purchased, 10 meals will be donated to hungry children in the world through its giving partners, World Food Program USA and Children’s Hunger Fund. According to cuddle + kind, there are nine 20” dollars to choose from and each will have its own name, birthday, and personality. Each doll is:

  • Hand-knit with premium natural cotton
  • Stylish and lovable
  • Safe and meets or exceeds U.S. and Canadian safety standards
  • Non-toxic
  • Handmade

The company noted:

cuddle & kind 5“We put a tremendous amount of care and passion into each cuddle+kind doll we produce. We obsess over every step in the process – from making sure every doll design is stylish and uber-adorable, to choosing the finest cotton yarns and a very high stitch-count, to insisting on premium hand-embroidered details – every doll is a labor of love from start to finish.

“In total, it takes 42 steps to create one handcrafted cuddle+kind doll. There are simply no short cuts when you’re trying to make the highest quality, most beautifully designed, exquisitely produced dolls possible.”

cuddle+kind also added:

cuddle & kind 1“Hunger is one of the most solvable problems the world faces today. Providing nutrition in the key early years of life has been proven to help children reach their full potential. And by feeding kids nutritious meals in school, we give them the energy they need to learn. It’s one of the most effective ways to empowering children to break out of the poverty cycle they were born into.”

Currently, the estimated delivery date for the dolls is November 2015 (just in time for the holidays!). Originally seeking $25,000, Cuddle+Kind has successfully raised over $96,000 from nearly 1,000 backers. It is set to close on October 16th.
