On Monday, Kickstarter alum, Blink, announced it has raised an additional $5.8 million from private investors. The DIY smart home monitor surfaced on the crowdfunding platform in 2014 and secured over $1 million from nearly 7,000 backers.
Peter Besen, CEO of Immedia, the company behind the home monitor, stated:
“We’re proud to welcome several of Blink’s supply chain partners as investors in the product, a validation of our relationship-based approach to product development. Their collaboration and input ensures that we can deliver the product more quickly and efficiently. The system design has also benefited from feedback from the Blink community. We’re confident that the final product will fill an unmet need for those who are in the market for a DIY home monitoring system that offers not just peace of mind, but also unprecedented placement flexibility, at a price well below that of comparable systems.”
K.P. Lai, marketing director of Easerich Industrial Ltd., noted:
“Blink is a one-of-a-kind product in the smart home marketplace, and arrives at the perfect time to enter the growing DIY home monitoring market. We are proud to be playing an integral part in Blink’s future success, as both a supply chain partner and as an investor in the company.”
Gordon Ao, CEO of Innosilicon, explained:
“We have been working very closely with the Blink team to roll out their state-of-the-art Blink camera chip technology that offers unmatched price performance, extremely fast capture and superior user experience in all conditions. This is just the beginning; we look forward to continuing our partnership and to creating new and innovative market leading products.”
Also investing in this round are venture investment firms Baker Capital and Dot Capital, both headquartered in New York City. John Baker, Chairman of Baker Capital, added:
“We are quite impressed with the highly unique IP that underlies Blink’s product differentiation and competitive advantage. Plus we’re very excited to partner again with a strong team with whom we’ve had great success in the past.”
Blink’s system is designed for budget-minded consumers, with limited-time pre-order pricing starting at just $79 for a one-camera system. A whole-home, five-camera system is $289. The company announced that it is now entering the production phase.
Also, The security system has been named a 2016 CES Innovation Awards Honoree in the Smart Home category.
