P1 5

Just one month after information about PepsiCo China’s smartphone, Pepsi P1, was reportedly leaked to the public, the popular beverage brand announced that it is not only working with a licensing partner to develop a line of mobile phones and accessories, but it has also launched a crowdfunding campaign on JD.com to raise ¥3000000  so that it can get the P1 to the Chinese mobile market.

P1 6While some may wonder if Pepsi is now going into the smartphone businesses, it was revealed that the company is only licensing its brand to Chinese company Shenzhen Scooby Communication Equipment Co, the company that will be manufacturing the P1.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop phone will have two different versions:

  • The P1, which supports China Mobile 4G
  • The P1S, which supports China Mobile 4G and China Unicom 4G.

Each smartphone will have a 5.5-inch 1080p display with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It has 4G LTE connectivity and dual SIM support, along with 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal memory, a 1.7GHz processor and a 3,000 milliamp-hour battery.

P1 1Price for the P1 is starting at ¥999 ($157 USD) until 1,000 units are sold. Then the phone will be available for ¥1,299 ($204). The smartphone will be available in blue, gold or silver.

The crowdfunding campaign is set to close on December 3rd and has so far raised ¥1,307,574.
