Teforia, creators of a smart tea infusing machine, has received a solid $5.1 million in seed funding. Early investors include Upfront Ventures, Lemnos Labs, PreAngel and InnerSpring. Teforia ran a pretail campaign in October and apparently quickly sold out of a limited quantity of 500 machines. Teforia is now making available a second batch of advanced learning tea making devices.
“We live in an era of unending innovation around coffee, and yet the experiences and processes surrounding tea have remained largely stagnant,” said Teforia founder Allen Han. “The food world has also evolved dramatically in recent years, while tea has gone overlooked. Teforia is righting this wrong by reinventing the tea brewing experience for the modern age, while still honoring the art and beauty of tea’s ancient tradition.”
Teforia wants to be the device to change the tea making world. There are approximately 158 million daily tea drinkers in the world today.
Teforia creators claim some impressive experience having worked on products like the Xbox 360 and the Kindle Fire. The incorporated machine learning algorithms are said to allow extreme customization to deliver the perfect cup of tea. Users of the Teforia can manage brewing characteristics like caffeine and antioxidant levels. The company is said to be in talks with several major retailers.
Yves Sisteron, a dedicated tea drinker and partner at Upfront Ventures, stated;
“As an avid tea drinker myself, I’m well aware of the beauty of a perfectly brewed cup of tea, as well as the difficulty in achieving that level of excellence. When I saw what the Teforia devices was capable of, and considered the massive size of the global tea-drinking market, I knew immediately that this was a company I wanted to back. I could not be more excited to see this device entering the market.”
Pretail purchasers can expect to receive second round orders in April of 2016 following the shipping of the first batch of Teforia machines.
