“Support San Bernardino Victims” Initiative Secures $100,000 on GoFundMe Two Weeks After Launch

San Bernardino 1

Earlier this month, San Bernardino mayor Carey Davis, along with the city’s common council, launched a crowdfunding initiative on GoFundMe to help support the victims and their families of the December 2nd shooting.

The campaign’s description reads:

Mayor Carey Davis“At 11:00 in the morning on December 2nd, two shooters armed with automatic weapons opened fire on a group gathered for a holiday event at the Inland Regional Center. Tragically, 14 lives were taken and another 21 people injured. That day is now a day inscribed into our hearts and minds as a day of tragedy. This horrific event was the worst mass shooting in the U.S. since Sandy Hook in 2012. The events of December 2nd shook the country and brought unimaginable suffering and grief to our city. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this incredibly difficult time.

“On behalf of the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino, this campaign has been created to support the victims of the shooting. The funds will be distributed evenly among the victims and their families via an official trust fund. GoFundMe and its payment processors have graciously offered to waive the fees for this cause.

“This tragedy has garnered worldwide attention and media coverage, but at the end of the day, families are still left with voids, and survivors with scars. It is my hope that these funds will assist the victims with the transitional period they will soon endure. Though we are experiencing immense grief, we will not be paralyzed. We will continue to move forward and grow together as a community.”

Rob SolomonA little over two weeks after its launch, the campaign has secured the initial $100,000 goal. Rob Solomon, CEO of GoFundMe, stated:

“By working with Mayor Carey Davis, GoFundMe was able to leverage our platform and network not just to mobilize people quickly, but centralize the efforts to ensure every cent raised goes to those that need it most – the victims of this senseless act and their families. This is an impactful example of empowering people to help others.”

GoFundMe and its payment processors waived the fees for this campaign.
