Seeking to help their Fort McMurray, Alberta fans in need, WWE stars Kevin Owens and Tyler Breeze hit crowdfunding portal GoFundMe to raise funds for the victims of the devastating fires.
The fires, which resulted in what’s considered the largest evacuation of residents in Alberta’s history, had over 80,000 people evacuated from their homes and has caused horrible damage to the city. Owens stated on the campaign’s page:
“Last week, the community of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada, was ravaged by a forest fire that still rages on as I type this. Thousands of people lost their homes and everything they owned and had to be evacuated. A few even lost their lives. As I watched the footage on the news, I decided I wanted to try and help. It turns out I wasn’t the only one thinking that because fellow Canadian Tyler Breeze was also trying to figure out how to help these people.
“So today, we come [together] in hopes of being able to raise money to help the victims of the fire get back on their feet. All the proceeds from this campaign will go to the Canadian Red Cross. Once the [campaign] ends, we will post a screencap of the donation on Twitter to prove that all the money donated went exactly where it belongs.”
Owens then noted that he and Breeze each donated $100 to start things off. Everyone who matches our individual donations will get a personal video message from both of them:
“Everyone who gives anything at all will get a follow on Twitter from both of us as a thank you. Just include your Twitter handle with your donation. It’s not much but this is about giving to those in need of help and with the crazy schedule we keep, it’s the best we can think of.”
Since its debut, the campaign has already surpassed its initial $30,000. It is set to close on May 22nd, the day of WWE Extreme Rules.
