Earlier this week, Crowdcube success Pavegen announced its product upgrade during an event at BAFTA. Last summer, the company secured over £2 million during the equity crowdfunding round. Its technology converts footsteps into electricity, making it possible to power services in high-footfall locations, as well as provide real-time data for analytics.
Pavegen revealed its new titles will produce 5 watts per step, which may be used to power low-voltage applications. The company shared that this new technology will product 20 times more power per step than the previous system. Founder, Laurence Kemball-Cook, stated that the product’s development means not a step is wasted and the old tile meant that there were edges that were not actually generating power.
Kemball-Cook also shared with Crowdcube this new product development is the biggest moment in the company’s history:
“We’ve created a product that can reshape the way people move in our cities, and with current digitisation our ability to connect physical and digital worlds through a single footstep, places us at the forefront of the footfall energy-harvesting market.”
Pavegen also announced this week it was collaborating with mobile platform Tribal Planet. Former Apple executive, Jeff Martin, is founder of Tribal Planet was announced as a board member earlier this year and the companies are in the process of creating an app that uses public venues along with access points around the world to monitor the energy generated on each tile.
Kemball-Cook added the Pavegen crew is thrilled about the collaboration with Tribal Planet and Martin has been instrumental in helping to identify the space that the company is currently positioned. He added:
“With this partnership we are moving Pavegen from kinetic flooring and sustainable energy into smart floors and the business of data.”
