On Wednesday, crowdfunding platform Crowdfunder UK announced its biggest and most influential crowdfunder, Lemn Sissay, has been awarded New Radical Status.

New RadicalsThe Crowdfunder UK crew shared Nesta has teamed up with The Observer to release their 2016 New Radicals list. This list is full of people and organizations that have the potential to change lives. Explaining details about Sissay’s work, the funding portal stated:

“Through his work with care leavers, poet and children’s rights campaigner, Lemn, has already been able to positively impact the lives of thousands of people, and he’s only just getting warmed up. In 2013 he started ‘The Christmas Dinner’, an initiative which provides a Christmas Day dinner to young care leavers, and creates the sense of community that many miss in their everyday lives.”

Crowdfunder UK noted that Lemn began to use its platform in 2013 to launch the Christmas Dinner project. During its run, the campaign not only raised awareness, but it also doubled its initial £5,000 target goal. Since then, the project has come back to Crowdfunder each year. Leon’s most recent fundraise has even raised over  £30,000 through the site. The Christmas Dinner has notably gone nationwide, with several cities including Manchester, London, Norwich and Leeds all taking part.

Other crowdfunding projects that made the New Radicals list include social enterprises, Change Please, Bio-bean, and The Real Junk Food Project.
