Last week, cartoonist KC Green launched a Kickstarter campaign for “This is Fine” Plush Dog. The adorable stuffed animal is based on the almost too relateable comic/meme. Within just one week of its debut, the project smashed its initial $35,000 funding goal and is currently nearing $350,000 thanks to over 9,400 backers.
“From my old webcomic Gunshow, this dark horse of a comic rose into prominent usage among the college testing crowd and grew from there. Normally the first two panels are only seen. Brevity is the soul of wit, after all! But it continued to seep into the consciousness of America and the world as things seemingly just got… worse. I, for one, hope there’ll be a day when we no longer have to look for the dog on fire to support our feelings, but until that day comes, maybe a nice big plush of the boy will help.”
An example of the comic is shown below.
The “prototype” of the dog features a brown hat and a coffee cup that has “This is Fine” written on it. It comes with a “Play Pak,” which will include a small stand/platform type object, which will showcase the dog’s usual burning house background. It will also come with three excellent stickers based on the character. Those looking to purchase just the plush dog may do through the Kickstarter for $25. The Play Pak will be included at $35.
Most importantly, Green noted:
“Don’t set fire to your boy. He should be made out of fire resistant materials, but we’re gonna cover our asses and say that it would be wrong-headed of you to find out. Just hug him please.”
The campaign is set to close on September 2nd.
