On Thursday, the team of the Kickstarter project, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Nightannounced the highly anticipated video game was officially going to debut in 2018 instead of its initial 2017 release.

Bloodstained 2As previously reportedBloodstained is described as a 2D exploration-focused, side-scrolling platformer that features RPG and crafting elements. Inside the game players are playing as Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse, which is slowly crystallizing her skin. She battles her way through a demon-filled castle summoned by Gebel, an old friend whose body have become more crystal than flesh. During its time on Kickstarter, Bloodstained secured $5,545,992 with 64,867 backers.Creator of the new game, Koji Igarashi (IGA), who is known for his work on Castlevania and other video game projects, stated at the time of the campaign:

“Many years have passed, but it’s finally time we meet again. With your help, I hope to create a new game built on some of the classic gaming principles my works are known for.”

Bloodstained is being developed by Inti Creates, which is the studio behind other famous games including Mega Man and Mighty No. 9. Castlevania composer, Michiru Yamane has also jumped on the Bloodstained ship and will be creating the game’s soundtrack with Ippo Yamada, who is known for his work on Resident Evil.

Bloodstained 3In a recent update, the Bloodstain team stated that ensure the video game meets standards of IGA. He revealed:

“The last thing I want to do is keep our backers waiting, but after receiving such incredible support, I feel responsible for delivering the best product I possibly can. Again, I offer my sincerest apologies.”

The team assures Bloodstain’s backers by saying they are looking towards playing the game as soon as they can, but like IGA, they also want this game to be “done right the first time.” They added:

We’ll continue to keep you updated on the development process every step of the way. (In fact, the next regularly scheduled update, featuring some songs and commentary from Michiru Yamane, is just about ready to go.”
