Earlier this week, the creators of the running app, Zombies, Run! returned to crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to raise £50,000 for its board game version. The team successfully secured over £55,000 for the app in 2011 from 3,464 backers.
The new board game will allow 2 to 4 player teams experience a “frantic, real-time sprint” through zombie-infested landscape. The teams will rescue survivors, uncover secrets and search for the cure. The app will guide the teams through the game’s map, and everyone will actually hear zombies approaching. They will also hear survivors and will have to make decisions about who to trust and who to stab in the back for first aid supplies. The game play may be 30 minutes or even 10 hours.
The game’s description reads:
“Your decisions really matter, because the app remembers your choices. Whether you befriend or betray someone, it’ll have consequences. The world changes even without your input, as zombie hordes roam across the map, settlements rise and fall, and the end of humanity moves ever closer.”
The basic board game box (available for 26) will consist of the following:
A2 laminated dry-wipe erasable map- 96 opportunity cards
- 72 zombie cards
- 5 zombie tracker cards
- 18 close call cards
- 18 weapon cards
- 4 character cards
Backers who select The Party Pack reward (£34) will receive an additional 100 cards along with an extra set of 96 opportunity cards, 12 after dark zombie cards, and 24 versus mode cards. The Runner 5 reward (£55) will include the board game and Party Pack rewards in one. Other rewards include Name a Place on the board (£300), Name a Zombie (£400), Become a Zombie (£800).
Since its launch, the campaign has successfully captured over £49,000 from nearly 950 backers. It is set to close on October 20th.
