Kickstarter Funded “Mystery Science Theater 3000” Goes Into Production

Mystery Science Theater

The reboot of the beloved cult classic Mystery Science Theater 3000” is finally back in production! The creator of the hit series, Joel Hodgson, announced on Monday that the crew is back and ready to get started with filming.

Hodgson and his team shared on Twitter:

Hodgson launched Kickstarter last fall with a mission to raise as much funds as he could to reboot Mystery Science Theater 3000. The original $2 million campaign goal would fund three full-length episodes, and $5.5 million would fund a season of 12 episodes. By the end of the funding round, the project secured $5,764,229 from 48,270 backers.

He previously reported:

Mystery Science Theater 3000 logo“The Kickstarter was my idea. I’d been working with Shout Factory trying to get the rights to MST3K for the last five years, and we finally closed the deal three months ago. I just think it’s really important to me that we start with the fans and talk to them, measure how interested they are and how much they care. If I had just done a traditional network deal and then talked to them, it didn’t feel right to me. I didn’t care whether it was 10 people or 100,000 people, I just wanted to know who they are, what they want, what their expectations are.”

During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Hodgson announced the show was heading to steaming service, Netflix. He also revealed that Mary Jo Pehl, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett will be making cameos in the upcoming season.
