Ridewithlocal, an online marketplace for adventure tourism that connects users directly to over 700 verified instructors globally in a range of activities, is seeking £400,000 during its equity crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube.
The platform, which was founded in 2015, already has more than 700 instructors and has been featured in various publications including ONBOARD, Doski, Method Mag and surf.fr. It has also raised £454,000 from its founders and private investors. Ridewithlocal’s team revealed:
“Greg [Menshikh] (founder and CEO) was unable to make use of great snow or surf conditions because he could not find a reliable local guide, and during his sabbatical in Bali he realised that instructors often struggle to find new customers. Ridewithlocal is a response to this situation. We are a team of tech-savvy action sports enthusiasts, united by a passion for adventure, a shared goal to empower local schools and instructors, and a wish to steer the growth of action sport tourism in a socially and ethically responsible direction.”
They also noted:
“Ridewithlocal supports local communities and develops local scenes, for example by providing surf safety training for Sri Lankan instructors and sponsoring beach trash hunts in France. Our mission is to become the leading online marketplace for action sport experiences, by providing unique and unusual experiences that can be booked simply and securely.”
Ridewithlocal currently charges instructors 13% commission on total booking value. The company is also planning to for a service provider (SP) acquisition and funds from the Crowdcube will go towards that acquisition. Other items that the funds will go towards will be customers acquisition through digital marketing along with platform development and enhancements. The campaign is set to close mid-February.
