Kickstarter Alum “Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return” Makes Netflix Debut

Less than a year and a half after raising over $5.7 million through crowdfunding giant Kickstarter, Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return finally made its debut on Netflix.

Back in November 2015, Joel Hodgson, the creator of Mystery Science Theater 3000, launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in 2015 with a mission to raise as much funding as possible so that he could to revive the series. Hodgson previously stated:

“The Kickstarter was my idea. I’d been working with Shout Factory trying to get the rights to MST3K for the last five years, and we finally closed the deal three months ago. I just think it’s really important to me that we start with the fans and talk to them, measure how interested they are and how much they care. If I had just done a traditional network deal and then talked to them, it didn’t feel right to me. I didn’t care whether it was 10 people or 100,000 people, I just wanted to know who they are, what they want, what their expectations are.”

The TV series’ description reads:

“The cult hit returns! Captured by mad scientists, new host Jonah survives a blitze of cheesy B movies by riffing on them with his funny robot pals.”

Staring alongside Jonah Ray is Felicia Day, Patton Oswalt, Baron Vaughn, and Hampton Yount. The first season has 14 episodes that are between 85-95 minutes long. Maturity rating is (obviously) TV-14.
