New Zealand-based peer-to-peer rental platform, MyCarYourRental, has launched an equity crowdfunding campaign on PledgeMe. The company is seeking $300,000 (max $800,000), which will go towards growing its car sharing community.
“The idea behind MyCarYourRental is to utilise the cars we have in New Zealand much more efficiently. We have so many cars that are not being used, but still we go to the big rental companie s when we need a car. We should be renting from each other and put the money we spend on rental cars in the pockets of locals instead of big international rental companies. We’re a Kiwi Peer to Peer car rental community that’s built for the crowd, by the crowd.”
Founder and CEO, Henrik Stovring, stated:
“When I first came across AirBnB a few years ago, my eyes were opened to the power of the sharing economy. I began to wonder why do we rent cars from big rental companies when there are so many local cars sitting idle in our driveways? I wanted to match neighbours with neighbours to share the resources that they own and keep the benefit from them connecting in the local community. We’ve learnt a lot from the past twelve months. We’ve ironed out many small hurdles which has seen a significant increase in sign-ups and owner-renter matches in the second half of the year. Now it’s time to put those learnings into action with more effective marketing to build our community.”
In regards to why he and his team decided to use the crowdfunding method, Stovring added:
“We’re a peer-to-peer community that’s built for the crowd, by the crowd. Crowdfunding allows us stay true to our belief that we are here to serve our loyal community. The future success of the company will be a shared success.”
The campaign is set to close at the beginning of June.
