Spanish “urban craft distillery,” Santamanía, is seeking £400,000 (€460,000) in an equity crowdfunding campaign launched on Crowdcube. The offer is for a 5.41% equity stake at a pre money valuation of just under £7 million. The crowdfunding round is already partially funded at 46% of its initial goal (£185,090). Santamanía said the campaign was launched on Crowdcube due to the international nature of their business. The company added that Santamanía is one of the few Spanish businesses to “satisfactorily complete the exhaustive financial and legal review to which the Crowdcube investment platform submits every project seeking finance in this way, and which serves as a guarantee to investors who use it.”
“these types of businesses are very attractive investments, but they have always been reserved for high-profile investors with strong purchasing power,” said Javier Domínguez, CEO of Santamanía. “For the first time, we at Santamanía wanted to give small investors the chance to become part of our exciting project”.
Santamanía points to a solid operational record with revenue of over £528,000 in 2016 and adds that it is currently profitable. Santamanía says it has turned down several purchase offers and could in fact obtain financing from other more conventional systems. Management decided to use crowdfunding which, although less traditional, aligns with the company’s philosophy.
Santamanía’s spirits are sold throughout Spain and in 19 other countries in Europe, Asia-Pacific (including Australia), Canada and South America. International expansion is part of their plan, and the company wants to create four small commercial branches to manage corporate expansion.
Since Crowdcube started to operate in Spain in 2014, the platform has channelled €9.6 million for 45 companies and has been supervised by Spain’s National Securities Market Commission, the CNMV, since 2016. Crowdcube is seeking a broader, pan-European presence and recently announced additional offices in several other European cities.
