Halo Coffee London Limited is raising £1.6 million for a 21.6% equity stake on crowdfunding platform Growthdeck. The campaign currently has raised £242,000 from 14 investors. The EIS eligible investment is targeting an IRR of 61.%.
Gary Robins, Head of Investment at Growthdeck, said they were delighted to be backing an excellent management team which is truly steeped in the coffee industry
Halo Coffee is an eco-friendly solution for the growing coffee capsule business. Each capsule is bio-degradable made from eco-friendly bamboo and paper pulp. Since the lapse of the market leader Nespresso’s patent, the capsule sector has seen a growth rate of 354%, according to Halo. Billions of aluminum or plastic capsules currently end up in landfills. Halo seeks to eradicate this problem.
As for the coffee inside the Halo capsules, the company says they are filled with the “finest, rarest and most desirable fresh coffees roasted and ground to perfection”. A premium product, the Halo capsules are not inexpensive ranging in price from £1 to £10 per capsule. Halo says it has also developed and launched Halo Pro, a larger compostable capsule and handle for professional espresso machines.
The Halo team includes founders Richard Hardwick and David Foster, each have extensive experience of the premium coffee industry, sitting on the British Coffee Association Sustainability Committee and Judging the UK Barista Championship. Nils Leonard, formerly Chairman of the advertising agency Grey London, part of WPP is the marketing expert. The team also includes a former Director of Nespresso and former Operations Manager of the 5th largest UK coffee company.
Halo says it is targeting international sales of £30 million within 3-5 years. The £1.6 million Growthdeck round seeks to offer investors the prospect of a 9x money return, based on a trade sale in 2021.
“We’re offering the market a product that doesn’t currently exist; the best coffees in the world, in a way that’s best for the world; a fully compostable coffee capsule filled with the finest, rarest and most desirable coffees. We are now seeking to raise funds to be able to meet the current market demand and to fulfil growing global interest,” says Hardwick.
