Reported Bitcoin billionaire Niklas Nikolajsen has become the new sponsor of the Danish Hockey team Rungsted Seier Capital. The team has been playing at Saxo Bank Arena, sponsored by the more traditional Saxo Privatbank, but as of December 27, 2017, the rink will be appropriately named Bitcoin Arena. The sponsorship agreement runs until 2021 at which time it may be renewed.
Nikolaisen is the founder of Bitcoin Suisse AG – the company that is pretty much ground zero for Zug, Switzerland’s rise as crypto nirvana.
Bitcoin Suisse is expected to be will be a very active sponsor of Rungsted Seier Capital. Bitcoin will play a role in the promotion of the team and games where people may have a chance to win some crypto. One report indicated the players may be paid in Bitcoin.
Nikolaisen is Danish but has lived in Switzerland for many years. Bitcoin Suisse has participated in some of the highest profile Initial Coin Offerings on record. Successful ICOs include the notorious Tezos offering that raised over $200 million in crypto and Bancor that topped out over $150 million.
Fortuitously, Nikolaisen is said to be an early investor in Bitcoin. In 2016, he was named one of the most influential bankers in all of Switzerland.
