Inaugural Blockchain Week Planned for San Francisco

The SF Blockchain community has scheduled an inaugural Blockchain Week in October. The event is said to focus more on the mechanics and benefits of blockchain (aka distributed ledger technology) as opposed to the initial coin offering hype that has infiltrated so many other events.

San Francisco Blockchain Week (SFBW) is described as a week of educational events focused on consumer adoption, technical innovation and insight from blockchain leaders in academics and industry who are looking to solve some of the industry’s largest problems.

Topics such as the pressing issue of scalability, identity (AML/KYC), decentralization, and more academic subjects are said to be on the list. SFBW says it wants to educate developers, consumers, and entrepreneurs on technical topics and familiarize them with leading projects currently in development.

“The blockchain community in San Francisco has realized that there is too much noise and not enough substance at most events today,” stated Ronen Kirsh, the event coordinator and managing partner at Dekrypt Capital. “As a result, we created San Francisco Blockchain Week to be a community event focused on high-quality education that engages both new consumers as well as experienced developers.”

As it stands now, San Francisco Blockchain Week consists of three headline events including:

  • the Ethereum Hackathon ETHSanFrancisco on October 5-7,
  • San Francisco Blockchain Week Epicenter on October 8-9
  • the Crypto Economic Security Conference (CESC) on October 10-11.

In addition, UC Berkeley will host a blockchain academy for executives looking to learn more about blockchain technology.

Today, it seems like there is a blockchain or crypto event hiding around every corner. Of course, things will eventually settle down. It will be interesting to see if SFBW can dodge the criticism that Consensus earned.
