Digital currency platform for payments and e-commerce Dash announced on Monday that more than 2,000 merchants around the world now accept its cryptocurrency for good and services. According to Dash, the number of merchants is up from 639 in February 2018 to its current total listing of 2,288. The company also confirmed that the increased listings are due to a rise in Dash presence in Venezuela, which accounts for 912 of businesses accepting Dash worldwide.
As previously reported, Dash revealed that it is more widely used for commerce, which is both online and in person, throughout Venezuela than every other cryptocurrency combined. The crypto also claimed at the time that it has easily become the number one digital currency payment in the country. Speaking about Dash’s presence in Venezuela, Dash Merchant Venezuela Head of Business Development Alejandro Echeverría, stated that most of the transactions with Dash are used for food-related merchants:
“In comparison to other cryptos, I can tell you that Dash is running a solo race, because no other crypto here has a specialized team that teaches merchants how to accept it, and they also don’t have a community like the one here. Dash is the number one crypto in Venezuela in terms of adoption and real usage.”
Dash Core Group CEO, Ryan Taylor, also explained that Venezuelans are currently facing inflation rates so high, and shortages of cash can make those infeasible as well for all but the smallest transactions. Taylor then added:
“Because Dash is digital cash that confirms instantly, it offers an incredibly valuable service to the market there, enabling point of sale transactions with incredibly low fees.”
