The European Crowdfunding Network (ECN) has announced the creation of a new group entitled the ECN-Italian Strategic Group (ECN-ISG).
The ECN is the leading pan-European voice for investment crowdfunding.
The objective of the ECN-ISG Working Group is to foster a more robust culture of crowdfunding in Italy by bringing together universities, public authorities, private foundations, and industry associations. The group will provide them with knowledge, contacts, and skills for the nascent sector of finance.
ECN notes that this new collaboration is in line with its mission of providing knowledge, resources, professional support and a forum to enable new cooperation activities in the crowdfunding sector. Recent regulatory developments in Italy, along with the expansion of the market in the country, are in line with the ongoing work initiated by the release of the European Commission’s proposal of March 8th, 2018 on regulation for European Crowdfunding Service Providers (ECSP). This proposal is currently under discussion in the European Council and European Parliament. Policymakers believe that crowdfunding has untapped potential to provide an alternative source of funding for start-ups and SMEs.
The ECN – ISG has describedas the “natural evolution of the cooperation between the European Crowdfunding Network and relevant players in the Italian entrepreneurial ecosystem.” In Italy, the group will be led by Unioncamere Lombardia, with the support of Aster Soc. Cons. p. A., Fondazione Fenice and Osborne Clarke.
Possible outcomes of the group are:
- The development and deployment of a standard certification for training and education on crowdfunding for professionals and investors;
- The activation of Job Placement pilot initiatives with ECN Platform Members, as to provide industry players with highly qualified human resources;
- The assessment of the feasibility of new guarantee instruments, co-financed by public authorities and other institutions
- The 8th European Crowdfunding Convention will be held in cooperation with the ECN-ISG in October 2019 in Milan.
