World Tennis Champ Serena Williams Invests in Coinbase

American tennis champ Serena Williams has reportedly invested in cryptocurrency platform Coinbase through her investment group, Serena Ventures. The group, which launched in 2014, has silently invested in more than 30 companies, including Coinbase. Williams stated she launched the company with a mission to give “opportunities to founders across an array of industries.”

“Serena Ventures focuses  on early stage companies, and giving them the opportunity to be heard. As we grow, we hope to mentor young founders and take burgeoning entrepreneurs to the next level. Serena Ventures extends relationships, encourages collaboration among portfolio companies, and expands partnership opportunities across my vast network. Similar to many of the companies we have invested in, we are just getting started and are hoping to make a difference.”

Along with Coinbase, Serena Ventures has also invested in LOLA, OLLY, Gobble, Daily Harvest, The Wing, Propel, and Little Spoon. The group has a $12 billion market cap of portfolio and 60% diverse founder investments. Serena Ventures has not disclosed how much it has invested in the companies.

Coinbase has received funding from various investment groups, including Polychain, Y Combinator, Tiger Global Management, and Draper Associates
