This year’s UEFA EURO extravaganza will have a distinct blockchain influence for the first time.
Ant Group’s blockchain arm AntChain has signed a five-year agreement with the football body which will see it become the official blockchain partner of UEFA EURO 2020 and UEFA national team football. Through Alipay the top scorer of the tournament will receive a trophy sculpted in the Chinese character “支” (pronounced zhi, which means payment and support). The bottom of the trophy will have a hash code keeping the scorer’s achievements secured on a blockchain.
Through its Campus Top Scorer Incentive Programme, Alipay stores top scorer records of youth footballers across China. It will do the same for the UEFA event.
