Facet Raises $8M, Adds Quartet to Leadership Team

Collaborative business analytics platform Facet has raised $8 million in seed funding led by Harrison Metal with participation from Bedrock, Breakpoint Capital, Gokul Rajaram, Slava Rubin, Brian Long, and Andrew Jones. The funds will be devoted to analytics unification and collaborative cloud data exploration.

Originally designed as a data visualization product by ad data firm Metamarkets, the technology was acquired and repurposed by Facet. The cloud-agnostic platform aggregates data from across silos into a single unit, allowing users to more easily perform analytics. It also offers collaborative workspaces housing data from across the enterprise.

Kevin Weatherman was named CEO after serving at three startups including MoPub, a mobile ad exchange acquired by Twitter in 2013. The Cal Berkeley grad was formerly CRO at OneSignal.

“As cloud computing becomes a requirement for any modern data stack, businesses need analytics solutions that address the inevitable fragmentation of data silos in the cloud while allowing every employee access to holistic data sets,” Weatherman. “Facet solves these problems by being cloud agnostic and unifying all fragmented data into one interface while also enabling any team within the organization to view the same dynamic data.”

Another MoPub vet, Herman Yang, is now Facet’s chief strategy officer. He has worked with B2B products at Twitter and Google, and was cofounder and CEO of enterprise SaaS mobile messaging startup ChatGrid. He earned his undergraduate degree at Stanford and an MBA at Harvard.

“We’re seeing a growing demand for a flexible analytics platform that can combine siloed data from multiple sources into a single visualization while allowing any team within a business to collaborate cross-functionally in a shared workspace,” Yang. “We’ve compiled an all-star team to meet this demand and transform the way teams explore, collaborate and take action on data in order to drive real business impact.”

Additional hires are Natalie Conklin as vice president of Engineering and Kezia Vere Nicoll as vice president of Marketing.
