Cross-border payments Fintech Wise (LSE:WISE) intends to hire around 150 professionals for its Singapore business offices in 2022.
Wise‘s management noted that this includes key roles focused on engineering, product development, design, analytics, compliance, payments and various other operations in order to support ongoing product development and expansion in the APAC region and globally.
Wise, previously doing business as TransferWise, serves over 12 million consumers and companies. Its line of products and services include Wise Transfer, the Wise Account and debit card, Wise Business and Wise Platform.
The Singapore office, Wise’s APAC hub, also relocated to a larger location during 2021.
It notably became one of the first non-bank financial institutions to integrate directly in the Fast And Secure Transfers (FAST) payments system and also reportedly the first Fintech in Australia to be approved to join the NPP (New Payments Platform) as a direct participant.
Wise’s CEO and founder Kristo Käärmann, stated:
“Our Singapore office has since grown into a key hub for us and I’m delighted by the progress we’ve made in serving our customers both here in Singapore and across the region.”
He added:
“As our APAC hub, Singapore serves as an important base for us as we continue to invest in making our mission 一 to make money work without borders 一 a reality for more people and businesses here and around the world.”
Singapore Economic Development Board MD Jacqueline Poh noted that the hub will help with creating new job opportunities in the Southeast Asian country and is testament to their reputation as a strategic hub.
Recently, Wise introduced a minimum standard for its international leave policy, including up to 18 weeks of paid parental leave – which would be given regardless of a worker’s gender, minimum 33 days of paid leave, as well as the addition of 3 days for workers to use as they please.
This is already on top of the firm’s existing 6-week sabbatical for workers who manage to complete four years of service.
