OurCrowd, a leading global investment crowdfunding platform, has launched a new Foodtech fund – joining its portfolio of other funds available for smaller investors.
According to the offering page, the OurCrowd FoodTech Fund (OC FoodTech) is seeking a raise of $30 million that will enable investors to gain exposure to the next 15 to 20 FoodTech opportunities listed on the platform. Investors gain immediate diversification in this hot sector of innovation.
OurCrowd notes that it made its first entry into the sector with an investment in BeyondMeat – prior to its initial public offering (IPO). Investors that participated in that offering generated a 3.5 return.
Overall, OurCrowd has been fairly active in the FoodTech sector, having committed around $95 million to 17 early-stage companies innovating in various aspects of food. OurCrowd has also created a FoodTech incubator called “FreshStart.”
OurCrowd is based in Israel but operates globally with offices around the world. The company reports over 190,000 registered investors, which have backed more than 347 companies. While US investors must be accredited, they may access VC type investments at a far lower price point than typical – either in funds or single company offerings.
