Google Cloud to Establish Infrastructure in Malaysia as Part of Expansion Efforts

Google Cloud recently revealed that it intends to expand to Malaysia in order to address rising demand for Cloud services in the Asia Pacific region.

Other areas that Google Cloud is considering reportedly include Thailand, New Zealand, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Mexico, Israel, and Turin.

When they officially launch, these new areas will be joining its 34 Cloud regions presently in operation across the globe — 11 of which are based in the APAC region.

As noted by Google Cloud, enterprises across industries, startups, and public sector organizations in Asia Pacific could  benefit from vital controls that allow them to maintain low latency and the highest level of security, data residency, and compliance standards, including specific data storage requirements.

Google Cloud noted:

“From retail and media & entertainment to financial services and public sector, leading organisations come to Google Cloud as their trusted innovation partner. The new Google Cloud regions in Malaysia, Thailand, and New Zealand will help our customers continue to enable growth and solve their most critical business problems. We will work with our customers to ensure the cloud region fits their evolving needs.”

They added:

“These new cloud regions represent our ongoing commitment to supporting digital transformation across Asia Pacific. We continue to invest in expanding connectivity throughout the region by working with partners in the telecommunications industry to establish subsea cables — including Apricot, Echo, JGA South, INDIGO, and Topaz — and points of presence in major cities.”
