Australia Crowdfunding: Top 20 Securities Offerings in 2022

Birchal, the leading securities crowdfunding platform in Australia (crowd-sourced funding), has returned with its annual report on crowdfunding in the country.  As Birchal books more than 70% of Australia’s offering volume, the platform closely tracks sector growth.

Birchal reports that the top 20 online securities offerings of 2022 have raised more than $1 million each for Australian startups, with new records being set again this year.

Birchal itself topped the list with a securities offering listed on its own platform seeking growth capital for operations raising $3 million “within hours”  – backed by 595 investors. Birchal’s raise was matched by agribusiness Neutrog, which also reached its maximum funding target of $3 million in about 36 days.

Birchal shares that the fastest movers of 2022 were:

• Your Mates Brewing Co, which set a new Australian crowdfunding record by reaching its maximum funding target of $2.5M in 1hr and 54 minutes, and the third biggest raise for the year.
• Another fast mover was Black Hops which hit its $2.2 million funding goal in just one day.  This compares to an average of 15 days on the market for Birchal’s top performers and an average 21 days on the market for all the top campaigns of 2022.

Of the eight companies that successfully achieved their maximum funding target for the year, six were hosted on BIrchal’s platform, while Equitise and OnMarket each had one fully funded result among the top 20 campaigns.

Threadheads garnered the most investors at 2544 individuals, raising $2.2 million. This was followed by Drink West with 1145 investors committing $2 million.

Two other top 20 equity crowdfunding campaigns gained more than 1000 investors, including Zorali with 1062 investors raising $1.2 million and Your Mates Brewing Co, with 1015 investors garnering $2.5 million.

By category, Food and Beverage was the most popular, with eight campaigns on the top 20 list, followed by Sustainability with three top raises. The next popular sector was Financial Services with two top securities offerings.

Agriculture & Farming and Clothing & Apparel, while Healthcare, Telecommunications and Consumer Goods each had one top performer.

While Birchal hosted 70% of the top campaigns, Equitise listed 20% (four campaigns), and both OnMarket and VentureCrowd hosted 5% (a single deal).

Results were spread relatively evenly throughout 2022, with June standing out with the most results in a single month, including six of the top 20 crowd investment campaigns.

Birchal said that more industry data is set for release in January when it publishes its full annual market review.

Birchal received a license from ASIC in 2018 and, since that time, has hosted over 190 successful securities offerings raising more than $145 million.
