Air EV says it has more than 400 pre-orders for its flagship personal aircraft, “eVTOL” or electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle. The company is currently raising growth capital on OurCrowd, an online investment platform.
Air EV says the Air One eVTOL aircraft plans to start deliveries before the end of 2024 as it works towards receiving FAA certification in the US.
The company adds that the prototype has successfully tested a remote flight under full payload, and it is having discussions with multiple US states for a facility and testing site. The CEO of Air EV predicts manned flight by the end of the year.
The vehicle is designed to be more of a commuter aircraft for short flights, able to take off and land on small-footprint landing pads. The Air One can carry two individuals around 100 miles in a trip.
Piloting the aircraft is designed to be simple and largely managed by technology.
The Air One can fly at around 155 mph with a ceiling of around 1200 feet below the ceiling of other commercial and personal aircraft. The max payload is currently 550 lb.
The company told CI earlier this year that if they can sell 600 aircraft, they will become one of the largest suppliers of private aircraft in the US. Of course, all of this is contingent upon FAA approval.
