Solarvest Borneo Partners with CENTEXS, Huawei Malaysia, and GreenBay to Launch Green Data Center Testbed in Malaysia

Solarvest Borneo Sdn Bhd (Solarvest Borneo) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS), Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia), and GreenBay CES Sdn Bhd (GreenBay) to launch a hyperscale green data center testbed and training program in Malaysia.

This collaboration aims to foster the hyperscale green data center industry in the Borneo region, promoting environmental responsibility by establishing data centers that reduce carbon footprint and optimize resource utilization.

The partnership, according to an announcement, will spur research and development collaboration and intellectual property creation in clean energy solutions.

Solarvest Borneo, a subsidiary of Malaysia-based clean energy firm Solarvest Holdings Berhad (Solarvest), will contribute its expertise in green energy and energy efficiency solutions.

CENTEXS will provide a dedicated testbed area for practical data center operations training, while Huawei Malaysia will support the training needs of the program with its technological know-how in cloud computing, enterprise intelligence, renewable energy, and data centers.

GreenBay will lend its expertise in constructing cost-efficient, future-proofed data centers.

Leon Liew Chee Ing, Director of Solarvest Borneo, stated that the green data center testbed and training program align with the Malaysian government’s focus on data centers within digital ecosystem development.

He emphasized that Solarvest’s expertise in green energy and energy efficiency solutions positions the company to play a pivotal role in creating environmentally conscious and energy-efficient data centers.

He added:

Given the Malaysian government’s focus on data centers within the digital ecosystem development, our green data center testbed and training program are poised to set the benchmark for environmentally responsible hyperscale data centers.

CENTEXS CEO, Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abdul Rahman, expressed delight in offering a learning arena dedicated to nurturing the skills of Sarawak’s emerging generation. He highlighted that the data center testbed provides valuable hands-on exposure for students, professionals, and researchers.

Chong Chern Peng, Huawei Malaysia Digital Power Business Unit Vice President, stated that Huawei Malaysia is excited to collaborate in this venture and is dedicated to enhancing Malaysia’s clean energy ecosystem through its digital and sustainable green technology solutions.

Chong added:

As environmental awareness grows, the adoption of green practices to mitigate the ecological impact of data centers is increasing. This partnership aims to jointly explore and develop prospects in cloud computing, enterprise intelligence, renewable energy, and data centers.

GreenBay Director, Nic Chong Lin Kong, highlighted the importance of hyperscale data centers in accommodating the expanding storage and processing requirements due to escalating data generation.

He mentioned that hyperscale data centers effectively cater to the escalating demands of cloud computing, internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analytics.

The collaboration aligns with Solarvest’s five-year strategic roadmap to emerge as one of Malaysia’s a regenerative clean energy experts. It also reflects a united commitment among CENTEXS, Huawei Malaysia, Solarvest Borneo, and GreenBay to advance the field of hyperscale green data centers, where sustainability and innovation converge.
