Sweden’s Digital Commerce Software Provider Focalpay Teams Up with Grocery Retailers Matrebellerna

Grocery retailers Matrebellerna and commerce software provider Focalpay announce a strategic partnership.

Focalpay will roll out its commerce platform that “includes, among other features, payment, checkout and backoffice functionality, across 23 Matrebellerna stores in Sweden from September onwards.”

Matrebellerna is a collective of independent grocery stores across Sweden. In order to digitize and harmonize payment and checkout journeys “for customers and staff, they have selected Focalpay.” Thanks to Focalpay’s innovative backoffice that “includes a Master Data Management Gateway, Matrebellerna has all the necessary integrations with their current main supplier’s system.”

As a result, Matrebellerna are able “to roll out the Focalpay platform in parallel with the existing end-of-life systems.” This is hugely beneficial from “a revenue and security standpoint, and ensures 100% uptime.”

The Focalpay platform is set “to empower in-store staff with new technology for manned checkouts and Mobile POS (point-of-sales), while enabling customers to use self service shopping options in selected stores.”

Andreas Rosensparr, owner of three Matrebell stores in Sweden, said:

“I have been looking for an innovative, secure checkout- and backoffice infrastructure with competitive pricing, and Focalpay ticks all the boxes. With Focalpay, we can unify our systems and create great customer experiences, while also ensuring that the in-store staff can complete their daily tasks efficiently and from anywhere. Close partnerships with innovative software providers such as Focalpay is a huge advantage, as they future-proof our offering to the end consumer and enable fast adjustment to the ever-changing retail landscape.”

Olof Henriksson, Chief Revenue Officer at Focalpay, said:

“We are thrilled about this partnership, where we will bring innovation, security and sustainability to the Matrebellerna stores and enable the in-store staff in completely new ways. Using a universal interface, staff can complete administrative tasks from anywhere, and take a sale in a manned till, mobile POS or via a tablet. Our harmonized platform is developed with a service-oriented architecture and open APIs. As a result, we have broken down the boundaries between payment, checkout and store administration – redefining the concept of what a retail platform is.”

Henriksson continued:

“Our skilled team of technology experts enables us to bring new features, such as Pay by Bank, to the market faster and more securely than normally in the retail industry. While enabling in-store staff, Matrebellerna can also offer customers new ways of shopping via Scan & Pay and remote ordering – shopping journeys that can be started in their own device and then seamlessly moved to self checkouts or manned tills.”
