Revolut, the financial global super app with over 35 million customers worldwide, has announced that its customers have raised over £1 million in order “to support refugees around the world through UK for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency’s national partner for the UK.”
The milestone total was “reached through Revolut’s Donations feature, which allows charities to receive donations from Revolut customers, of which 100% of the amount is received by the charity partner, free from any fees.”
These contributions have played “a pivotal role in assisting the UNHCR in safeguarding and supporting those who have been forced to flee their homes, helping them seek refuge and rebuild their lives.”
Since first onboarding the charity in 2020, Revolut customers have “consistently stepped up in times of crisis, generously responding to UK for UNHCR’s emergency appeals.”
Notably, Revolut customers rallied “to aid people affected by the floods in Libya (2023) and, prior to that, provided crucial support following the Türkiye–Syria earthquakes (2023), to refugees affected by the war in Ukraine (2022) and during the Afghanistan emergency (2021).”
Vlad Yatsenko, CTO & Co-founder of Revolut, commented:
“As crises emerge all over the world, it is nothing but essential that charities on the ground are able to effectively provide support to those most in need. We are incredibly proud to offer a service that helps deliver crucial funds to these charities, quickly and fee free. We are incredibly grateful to all our customers who together have donated tens of millions to charities all over the world.”
Emma Cherniavsky, Chief Executive Officer at UK for UNHCR, added:
“We are truly grateful to Revolut customers for their unwavering support. Your donations have been a lifeline, allowing UNHCR teams to respond swiftly to the most urgent needs of displaced families. Your continuous support exemplifies the true power of compassion and solidarity, capable of making a world of difference in the lives of those who have lost everything.”
UNHCR works to provide the essentials that refugees “need to survive including; shelter, food, water, healthcare and protection. It provides protection services to thousands of refugees, which includes safeguarding of unaccompanied and separated children, addressing mental health and psychosocial needs, supporting families to find shelter, and ensuring the provision of essential civil documentation.”
