Hong Kong Green Week’s Finance Stream Wraps Up with Global Participation

The Hong Kong Green Week – Finance Stream concluded Friday, marking the end of a series of sustainability-themed events that drew more than 1,600 participants from almost 30 jurisdictions worldwide.

The week-long initiative brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including financial institutions, corporates, central banks, international organizations, government agencies, academia, and consulting firms, to explore avenues for advancing green finance.

The Climate Business Forum: Asia Pacific (CBF), the cornerstone finance event of the week, was co-hosted by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the International Finance Corporation.

Commencing on February 26, the forum attracted over 400 participants, including key global business and finance leaders, to deliberate on strategies for unlocking climate financing in the Asia Pacific region.

Discussions at the two-day forum spanned a wide array of critical topics, from the energy transition and decarbonization of heavy industries to circular economy practices, the future of sustainable finance, and innovative climate technologies in emerging and developing markets.

In conjunction with the CBF, a series of more than ten roundtables, seminars, and networking events were organized by various public and private sector institutions.

These sessions focused on climate finance, carbon markets, the electric vehicle supply chain, financing for the net-zero transition, green classification frameworks, and green development financing in the Belt and Road region.

Moreover, the HKMA and the International Monetary Fund co-hosted the Asia Climate Finance Roundtable on February 29, which examined strategies to amplify climate finance and the pivotal role of central banks and regulators in managing climate-related risks.

The Hong Kong Green Week – Finance Stream served as a vital platform for fostering new business development, knowledge sharing, networking, and collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors to address climate financing challenges in the Asia Pacific.

This initiative is part of the HKMA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the green and sustainable ecosystem in Hong Kong.

Looking ahead, the HKMA and the Dubai Financial Services Authority are set to co-host the Joint Climate Finance Conference in Hong Kong during the autumn of 2024.
