Following the launch of Cuenta Nu this year, over 500,000 Colombians have started saving to achieve their financial goals using this product.
One of the most popular features among customers has been the “Cajitas,” which allow people to set aside money for saving. So far, around 600 thousand of these “Cajitas” have been created.
Nu Colombia shared figures demonstrating “the success of the Nu Account in the country: over US$450 million in assets under management by August 2024, thanks to deposits made in just two months.”
The product has been so successful that “nearly 35,000 new accounts were opened in a single day, and around US$15 million in deposits were received.”
But what is this success attributed to? According to Marcela Torres, General Manager of Nu Colombia.
“This is the response to people’s financial needs. In a country where 84% of Colombians have a savings goal, but 60% cannot save as much as they would like and 45% face some barrier in the process, the Nu Account aims to be a tool to transform dreams into achievable goals through savings. Only 33% of Colombians save to achieve their goals, which highlights the importance of offering financial products that facilitate and maximize this option.”
The figures come from a study conducted “by Ipsos for Nu Colombia, aimed at understanding the culture of savings in the country.”
It also revealed that, although Colombians “have significant financial goals such as acquiring their own home (33%), securing their old age (18%), or financing their education or that of a family member (13%), they face various obstacles in achieving them.”
These obstacles include low returns “on their savings accounts (24%) and the high costs associated with these accounts, leading to the consequent loss of money value (18%).”
Dear Future: the experience that invites Colombians to turn their dreams into savings goals
If they could talk to their future, what would they say? That is the question Nu poses to Colombians as part of its new campaign, ‘Dear Future.’
Aiming to encourage more Colombians to achieve their goals, Nu Colombia designed an interactive experience “to highlight the savings landscape in Colombia and invite people to express and bring their dreams to life with the Nu Account.”
Torres added:
“Dear Future is an invitation to turn dreams into reality by financially planning for what’s ahead. It’s not just about having a savings account, but about having an account with a purpose.”
Through this innovative experience, the company is “inviting Colombians to talk to their future and see how their dreams can become reality through financial planning.”
The activation will take place at Zona T in Bogotá with an interactive cube inspired by “Cajitas”, from August 14th to 19th.
