Darren Westlake, co-founder of one of the largest securities crowdfunding platforms in Europe, Crowdcube, has joined a new startup. According to a report by CityAM, Westlake is shifting gears away from Fintech and into the world of music. Westlake exited Crowdcube in early 2023 after launching the investment platform in 2012.
Disco (itsdisco.com) aims to enable users to “rediscover the joy of shared music.” According to its website:
“In a world where algorithms dominate our listening habits, we at Disco believe it’s time to bring the human touch back to music discovery. We’re on a mission to revolutionize how people find, share, and experience music together.”
Disco aims to challenge the existing algorithm-streaming music platforms by incorporating a “social layer.” The company already has an App available for download on iOS and Android/Google Play.
Westlake, at one point in his life, was apparently a DJ and very active in the Manchester music scene.
As Disco seeks to scale up, it should be no surprise that it is planning a crowdfunding round on Crowdcube. While not yet live, the possible offering is testing the waters and accepting indications of interest.
Disco explains its reason for raising money online: “We believe in building Disco with our community of music lovers. Crowdfunding allows us to bring our biggest supporters on board as co-owners and continue to grow with the help of our community.”
