In what may be a heated meeting of the House Financial Services Committee, SEC Chairman Gary Gensler is scheduled to testify next week in a hearing on the Oversight of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
While the hearing memo nor prepared testimony is yet available, Chair Gensler has been a regular target regarding queries on the SEC’s position pertaining to Fintech including digital assets.
Earlier today, Congressman Tom Emmer revealed a letter addressed to the Chairman asking the Commission to clarify its position on crypto Air Drops.
Other hot-button items include the SEC’s aggressive approach to ESG topics, such as the recent rules on Climate Disclosure, which have shifted the Commission’s focus away from capital formation and efficient markets.
Chairman Gensler has been criticized by Republican members for over-politicizing the SEC in its pursuit of a social agenda. Some have described the SEC as “anti-capital formation” due to moves that may limit access to capital.
The hearing is scheduled for September 24th at 10 AM ET. It will be live-streamed to the public.
