Crypto.com Upgrades PCI DSS to v4.0 Certification, a Key Milestone in Digital Payments Security

Crypto.com, which claims to be trusted by over 100 million customers worldwide and the service provider focused on ensuring regulatory compliance, security and privacy, announced that it has set a milestone by reportedly becoming one of the “first” cryptocurrency platforms to upgrade its Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) 3.2.1 to v4.0 certification.

This underscores Crypto.com’s focus on implementing robust security measures and maintaining data privacy standards.

Jason Lau, Chief Information Security Officer of Crypto.com said that achieving PCI DSS v4.0 certification solidifies Crypto.com’s commitment to security and data privacy.

Jason also mentioned that they are focused on their pursuit of maintaining security standards, ensuring their customers can trust products with confidence and that they have the necessary infrastructure and safeguards to meet the expectations.

The development of PCI DSS v4.0 is said to be driven by the need to continue enhancing standards in addressing the security requirements of the payment industry.

PCI DSS v4.0 retains the core 12 security requirements and also adapts to the threat landscape by integrating new technologies into its framework.

Despite the industry deadline for PCI DSS v4.0 certification being set for March 2025, Crypto.com has taken steps to become one of the “first” in the crypto space to achieve this standard.

Kris Marszalek, CEO of Crypto.com said that they will continue investing in building a most trusted platform for users that maintains the standards of security and privacy.

Crypto.com’s achievement of the PCI DSS v4.0 certification is said to solidify its position as a leading virtual asset service provider, underscoring its commitment to meeting regulated standards of the financial industry.

Crypto.com earlier also became the first virtual asset platform to achieve various certifications across all platforms including SOC2 Type 2, ISO 27017 and ISO 27018 for cloud security and privacy certifications in 2023, ISO 22301 for Business Continuity Management in 2021, ISO 27701 for Privacy Information Management System in 2020, and ISO 27001 for Information Security Management Systems in 2019, along with conforming to the “highest tier” of the NIST Cybersecurity and Privacy Frameworks, and receiving regional specific certifications like the Data Protection Trust Mark and Cyber Trust Mark in Singapore.

Established back in 2016, Crypto.com claims that it serves over 100 million customers and is the world’s fastest growing global cryptocurrency platform.
