Visa, Maroc Telecom Team Up to Boost Mobile Payments in Africa

Visa and Maroc Telecom Group have entered into a strategic partnership to enhance mobile payment services in Morocco and explore wider digital financial inclusion efforts across Africa, the companies announced.

The collaboration will initially focus on integrating Visa’s payment solutions into MT Cash, Maroc Telecom’s mobile money platform.

The move will allow MT Cash users to make secure electronic payments, transfer funds, and complete merchant transactions directly from their digital wallets, marking a significant step toward expanding cashless payment options in Morocco.

The companies also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a broader framework for cooperation beyond Morocco.

The agreement sets the stage for Visa and Maroc Telecom to jointly develop and deploy digital financial services across the African continent, with an emphasis on reaching underbanked and underserved populations.

The partnership reflects both companies’ broader strategies to accelerate digital transformation and increase access to financial services.

Maroc Telecom has positioned innovation and technology-driven solutions at the core of its growth plans, while Visa continues to push for broader adoption of digital payments worldwide, particularly in emerging markets.

Africa remains one of the most promising regions for mobile money growth, driven by high mobile penetration and low banking coverage.

According to industry estimates, millions across the continent still lack access to traditional banking services, making mobile wallets and digital payment platforms a critical tool for financial inclusion.

Maroc Telecom, the largest telecommunications operator in North and West Africa, operates across several markets where access to financial services remains limited.

The partnership with Visa is expected to leverage this footprint to scale digital payment adoption in multiple countries.

Visa, active in over 200 countries and territories, brings global experience in digital payments infrastructure to the collaboration.

Both companies underscored their commitment to supporting innovation in financial services, aiming to help drive the next wave of mobile payment adoption across Africa.
