Elon Musk’s Grokipedia to Challenge Wikipedia, Aims to Counter Woke Ideology

Last night, Elon Musk revealed that his solution to Wikipedia, Grokipedia version 0.1, is now live. Musk has criticized the information on Wikipedia for years, calling it unbalanced. Musk said even this first version of Grokipedia was superior to Wikipedia.

Wikipedia has been challenged for years with allegations of bias. The website has long been a reference point for researchers, journalists, and others seeking information from the digital encyclopia. The claims of bias gained significant credibility when Wikipedia founder Larry Sanger stated that Wikipedia “has been hijacked by a powerful, politically driven agenda.” Sanger believes the site has been consumed by “woke ideology,” a left-wing authoritarian belief. As reported by the Free Press, Sanger says “anonymous editors who are supposed to be committed to the truth instead edit articles to suit their ideological priors. And that has made the site harder to trust than ever—especially on some of the most controversial and important issues of the day.”

Grokipedia uses xAI’s Grok to discern information from various sources. Grokipedia states that it is “prioritizing maximum truth-seeking over consensus-driven editing.”

Grok notes that “Wikipedia, by contrast, depends on volunteer editors whose biases—often left-leaning—can distort entries on controversial topics.”

One poster on X declared that “from this day forward, I will only use Grokipedia.con for all my client projects that require outside link reference points in AI local model agentic responses. Over the next few days we will pull 1000s of links in code that allowed it. This is true for my local AI models also.”

Twitter founder, now X, Jack Dorsey, issued his endorsement of Grokipedia with a thank-you memoji.

Grokipedia is open source and free to use by all. Wikipedia has operated on a donation model, which may now be undermined.

As with Grok, expectations are for rapid improvements to Grokipedia as it continues to hoover up information from around the world. Grokipedia notes that some content is adapted from Wikipedia as licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License.
