First Abu Dhabi Bank to Enable Real-Time Payments Across Middle East

Thunes, the so-called Smart Superhighway to move money across the globe, announced that First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), the UAE’s Global bank, and one of the world’s largest financial institutions, has reportedly selected Thunes as its provider to support international mobile wallet payouts via its Direct Global Network. This strategic collab represents a key milestone in improving cross-border payment capabilities from the UAE to international corridors.

After the solution is integrated and implemented, FAB customers will be able to send real-time payments across over 130 different countries, providing clients with more accessible international payment solutions.

This partnership aligns with the aims of various national initiatives such as “We the UAE 2031” and the “Central Bank’s Financial Infrastructure Transformation (FIT)” program, which encourages “a dynamic environment for digital innovation, interoperability,” and greater financial inclusion in the region.

The collab between FAB and Thunes reflects a commitment to expanding access to payment channels globally, “placing them at the forefront of cross-border innovation.”

Thunes, recognised for its Network coverage and real-time capabilities, has become a partner in driving cross-border payment advancements across the Middle East.

Through this collaboration, the organisations are enabling “a modern cross-border payment experience in the UAE characterised by speed, scalability, and customer-centricity.”

Thunes’ Direct Global Network allows Members “to make payments in real-time in over 130 countries and more than 80 currencies.”

Thunes’ Network connects to mobile wallets, stablecoin wallets and bank accounts worldwide, as well as cards via “more than 320 different payment methods, such as GCash, M-Pesa, Airtel, MTN, Orange, JazzCash, Easypaisa, Alipay, WeChat Pay.”

Thunes’ Direct Global Network differentiates itself via its global reach, in-house SmartX Treasury System and Fortress Compliance Platform, “ensuring Members of the Network receive speed, control, visibility, protection, and cost efficiencies when making real-time payments.”

Members of Thunes’ Direct Global Network include gig economy firms such as Uber and Deliveroo, super-apps like Grab and WeChat, MTOs, fintechs, PSPs and banks.

With head offices based in Singapore, Thunes has offices in 14 locations, including Atlanta, Barcelona, Beijing, Dubai, Hong Kong, other regions.
