Kalshi Political Index, American Power Index, Revealed

Prediction market Kalshi has created an “American Power Index” that is designed to be an Index like the S&P 500 for the political ecosystem.

Kalshi allows betting on events on just about anything. The political index is an interesting extrapolation of the platform’s services that offers insight into current sentiments between the Democrat and Republican political parties.

The American Power Index, or KPOW, currently shows Republicans at +2.50, or leaning Republican. The index is based on two components -one based on current events and the other based on future market expectations. +50D represents maximum Democrat control, and +50R represents maximum Republican control.

As recently as last week, the index leaned Democrat.

As the midterms are just around the corner, the KPOW index will face its first solid test of its effectiveness.

Kalshi says they are producing the index because there is more information than ever but less clarity with all the data made available. Kalshi says this is a problem that is “worth addressing.”
