Notre Dame Professor Conducts Research on Reg CF Crowdfunding Offerings and Investor Decisions

John Aland, an accounting professor at the University of Notre Dame, is currently conducting research on crowdfunding offerings and investor decisions.

Aland, a contributor at Kingscrowd, is partnering with the firm to promote the effort to better understand investors who are considering or have participated in a Reg CF (Regulation Crowdfunding) securities offering.

Reg CF is a securities exemption that enables online capital formation. An issuer may raise up to $5 million from anyone older than 18 through an online offering. It is one of three exemptions that allow an issuer to raise money online. An issuer must partner with a platform to solicit investments.

The research regards a hypothetical choice in an attempt to better understand the factors that influence a securities crowdfunding investment.

Kingscrowd states:

“Your responses will help researchers better understand what investors look for in equity crowdfunding offerings, and the findings may benefit the broader crowdfunding community, including investors, companies, platforms, regulators, and researchers.”

Kingscrowd notes that it is not sponsoring or administering the survey. Participants may be eligible to enter for a chance to receive a monetary incentive.

Aland has engaged with the study of online capital formation for some time and has previously published research entitled: What Drives Equity Crowdfunding Investment Decisions? Evidence From a Discrete Choice Experiment, Equity Crowdfunding and Offering Page Disclosure, and Exploring the Knowledge Gaps of Crowdfunding Firms: A Survey of Crowdfunding Firms and Auditors
