MoonPay and DunPay’s parent company Dunamu are exploring a strategic partnership focused on stablecoin-powered payments, corporate treasury tools, and broader global reach for Dunamu’s GIWA blockchain.
On October 20, 2026, the New York-based crypto payments and stablecoin infrastructure firm MoonPay said it is moving forward with discussions with South Korean company Dunamu, the operator of the country’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit.
The two sides intend to jointly map out commercial opportunities in digital-asset financial infrastructure.
The collaboration centers on three main areas.
First, the companies will examine use cases for stablecoin-based cross-border payments and fund transfers.
They plan to review how digital assets could support international money movement and assess the commercial viability of new service models that draw on both firms’ technology and infrastructure.
Second, they will study applications of digital asset rails for corporate finance and treasury management, looking for practical ways businesses could use blockchain-based tools for day-to-day financial operations.
Third, the partners aim to expand the global footprint of GIWA, Dunamu’s Ethereum Layer-2 network.
By connecting MoonPay’s worldwide services and partner network with Dunamu’s blockchain infrastructure, they hope to improve overseas access to GIWA-based products and assets and identify additional market opportunities.
Bugeon Lee, MoonPay’s head of Asia-Pacific, stated that stablecoins need supporting technology and networks capable of handling not only cross-border payments and transfers but also the actual financial operations of businesses if they are to serve as global infrastructure.
He added that pairing Dunamu’s blockchain capabilities with MoonPay’s financial services platform would open new possibilities for digital assets while helping the GIWA ecosystem reach international markets.
MoonPay, founded in 2019, provides infrastructure that links traditional payment systems with blockchain rails.
It reports serving more than 35 million customers across 180 countries and more than 1,500 enterprise clients, and it holds regulatory licenses in jurisdictions including the United States and the European Union.
Dunamu operates Upbit and has been building GIWA as a Layer-2 chain intended to support real-world financial use cases.
The company is separately advancing a share-swap merger with Naver Financial, with the two entities planning joint stablecoin and payment services.
Earlier in 2026, Hana Bank acquired a 6.55 percent stake in Dunamu for 1 trillion won (approximately $755.6 million) as part of its broader push into stablecoins and digital assets.
MoonPay and Dunamu plan to further evaluate the technical and commercial feasibility of the three priority areas—stablecoin payments and transfers, corporate treasury applications, and GIWA ecosystem growth—while continuing to search for additional opportunities that leverage their combined strengths. The discussions remain at an exploratory stage rather than a finalized commercial launch.
