Agatha Bacelar, a Stanford engineer, is running for Congress on a less than traditional platform that touts her crypto-friendly cred. Even better, Bacelar is attempting to challenge House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the most influential Democrat in the US.
According to her promotional info, Bacelar notes:
“When only 3% of Representatives in the House have a STEM background, we all suffer from its stunning lack of comprehension of crypto and its global relevance. Your support will help elect someone who understands the importance of this breakthrough technology, and that the US cannot be left behind.”
Bacelar believes the old-guard establishment is holding back a future where “economic freedom is afforded to all.”
And, as one may expect, Bacelar is accepting campaign contributions in crypto by setting up a Coinbase account seeking $1 million for her political challenge (currently she has raised $5000).
Beyond Bacelar’s crypto advocacy, her stand on other issues lean left, including:
- Single-payer health care
- Stop U.S. involvement in the endless, expensive wars.
- Support for the Green New Deal
- and more…
It is interesting to note that most of the anti-crypto rhetoric on Capitol Hill has come from the Democrat party. California Congressman Brad Sherman has become an anti-crypto meme, of sorts. Meanwhile, the biggest crypto advocate in the House is Republican Congressman Warren Davidson who has been talking up the Token Taxonomy Act for many months now. Granted, it is a bipartisan bill.
